The Social Security Administration (SSA) offers several lesser-known services to help individuals with medical, familial, and financial issues. These services include expedited disability claims through the Compassionate Allowances program for serious medical conditions, appointment of representative payees for beneficiaries who cannot manage their own payments, assistance with Medicare drug costs through the Extra Help program, free interpreter services for individuals with limited English proficiency, international Social Security agreements to minimize dual payroll taxation, proof of income through the My Social Security service, benefits for grandchildren who are primarily cared for by older adults, and providing Social Security numbers for newborns and maintaining a baby names index. Read more.

Medicare provides limited coverage for home health care services for individuals who are homebound due to a chronic illness or injury. Covered services include home health services, medical social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and skilled nursing care. Medicare also covers medical supplies and a portion of the cost of necessary medical equipment. However, these services are limited to a certain number of days per week and hours per day. Medicare home health benefits do not cover full-time skilled nursing care, drugs, housekeeping, meal delivery, or transportation. To qualify, patients must be under a doctor's care and have a plan of care. Different types of home health care professionals provide different services. It's important for caregivers to understand what Medicare covers and advocate for their loved ones.  Read more.

AgingHere Inspirational Quotes

“The great thing about getting older is that you become more mellow. Things aren’t as black and white, and you become much more tolerant. You can see the good in things much more easily rather than getting enraged as you used to do when you were young.” ~Maeve Binchy
