Expenses for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, professional at-home care, and various medical services can be deducted. Deductible costs include prescription medicine, medical exams, hospital care, and more. Home care costs can also be deducted by calculating the percentage of time spent on qualifying tasks. Long-term health insurance policies and deductibles should be considered, and the deductible amount is determined by multiplying the adjusted gross income by 7.5% or 10% depending on age.
